At Literacy 1st, we believe literacy extends beyond reading and writing. It includes the ability to understand information, communicate effectively, access resources, navigate systems, and make informed decisions that affect everyday life.
Our programs and initiatives are designed to strengthen knowledge, build confidence, connect individuals and families with resources, and create pathways to opportunity. We work independently and collaboratively with schools, community organizations, public agencies, and other partners to respond to identified community needs.
Our Areas of Focus
Literacy & Educational Enrichment
We support learning across the lifespan through educational programs, workshops, resources, and enrichment opportunities. Initiatives may address reading and academic development, family learning, educational readiness, communication skills, and lifelong learning.
Multilingual Learning & Language Access
We support efforts that make information, education, and community resources more accessible to multilingual families. Initiatives may include culturally responsive outreach, multilingual resources, family education, and connections to language-access services.
Family & Community Engagement
Strong communities are built through meaningful connections. Literacy 1st supports family engagement, community outreach, workshops, stakeholder engagement, and initiatives that strengthen relationships among families, schools, organizations, and community partners.
Housing & Resource Literacy
Understanding housing information and knowing where to find assistance can be challenging. Literacy 1st supports educational and resource-navigation initiatives that help individuals and families better understand housing-related information, community resources, and pathways to appropriate services.
Food, Nutrition & Wellness Literacy
Access to understandable information can help families make informed choices about their well-being. Initiatives may include educational resources, workshops, outreach, and connections to food, nutrition, health, wellness, and community-based resources.
Digital & Everyday Life Literacy
Navigating today's world increasingly requires digital knowledge and the ability to understand complex information. Literacy 1st supports initiatives that help individuals and families build confidence using technology, accessing online resources, understanding information, completing everyday tasks, and navigating community systems.
How We Serve
